WHAT ARE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS?
COMMONLY ABUSED PRESCRIPTION MEDICATIONS
Prescription medications are used very successfully to treat a variety of injuries, conditions and illnesses. Their high level of effectiveness can bring needed relief to people suffering from pain, anxiety or conditions such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or narcolepsy.

Because many medications affect important brain and body functions, a prescription from a doctor or other healthcare professional is required to use them. When prescription medications are used to get "high", it is drug abuse. Abuse of prescription drugs is dangerous. And can be deadly.

Commonly abused prescription medications are stimulants, CNS depressants, and narcotics (opioid analgesics).

Here is some other information on prescription drugs that you may find helpful. This information may help you understand what they are and why they are available only through a doctor or other healthcare professional.
